Oxford Saints will be aiming to get back to winning ways tomorrow, when they travel to Norwich in the Southern Conference, after they lost 12-6 at Chiltern Cheetahs.

Played at Amersham RFC, the game was spoilt by gusting wind and driving rain.

After a few early exchanges of possession, Saints took a 6-0 lead halfway into the first quarter, through a 10-yard Kingsley Ejidgu sweep to the right side.

With the rain getting heavier neither team, could move the ball for long, as Oxford held onto their lead at half- time, though they were grateful to a tremendous interception by rookie corner Gareth Havis, who stopped a promising Chiltern drive in its tracks.

The second half opened with the Cheetahs scoring on their first drive with a 25 yard passing play, as they forced the leveller.

They then spurned the chance to take the lead by two points when they missed the conversion.

Both teams found it difficult in the third quarter, fumbling the ball as the rain continued.

In the fourth quarter, all the pressure was on the Saints defense with line backer Troy Smith making a number of outstanding tackles to slow their progress.

However, Chiltern's offense got the ball with ten minutes left, and put together the best drive of the day to run in a touchdown from 15 yards out.

With the conversion again being missed, the score remained 12-6 in favour of Cheetahs.

And with less than a minute left on the clock, the Saints' quarterback Rob Suttling tried to force the pace and threw an interception on the 10-yard line as the home side held on for the victory.
