The headteacher of an Oxford nursery school is looking forward to a new career as a university lecturer.
Nick Swarbrick with children at Bartlemas Nursery School
Nick Swarbrick, 45, has been head of Bartlemas Nursery School in Cowley Road for six years, but left at the end of term to become a senior lecturer in early childhood studies at Oxford Brookes University.
On July 19 he said farewell to staff and children, and paid tribute to their achievements.
He said: "I am very excited about the possibilities but am sad to leave such brilliant staff and fantastic children and families. The job is a hard one, but I have learned a lot and enjoyed it.
"The paper work is increasing, the pressures of inspection are great, and the things we are expected to do in early years is increasing every day.
But that is balanced by the rewards.
"Young children are the most exciting people to be with and I hope I'll be working with them again."
New acting head Ann James said: "Nick has been a brilliant head and a great role model for the children. He will be missed."
