A PROJECT to build a new school arts centre has been given a £400 boost, following a concert in Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre.
About 450 people attended the fundraising concert for Abingdon School, which featured a performance by the school's orchestra.
The 75-strong Abingdon School First Orchestra, which has recently returned from a tour of Central Europe, joined up with several Old Abingdonian musicians to present the concert.
They played piano concertos by Mendelssohn and Grieg and the violin concerto in D major by Mozart.
School spokesman Dr Tim Gunn said: "The concert was a celebration of the success of the orchestra's tour to Vienna, Prague and Budapest, and of the launch of the appeal to complete the fundraising for the school's new arts centre."
The centre will offer new and improved accommodation for the school's music, art and drama departments.
Members of the Abingdon School First Orchestra are pictured after their concert at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford on Friday, September 27.
