Hawks had to wait until the 24th minute to equalise when Jon Davies's pinpoint cross was slotted past the keeper by Mathew Baggs.
But the game was level for only four minutes until Lewes grabbed their second through Tim Garner. Hawks applied some pressure, and were rewarded with a short corner.
The initial shot from Richard Fogden fell to Dawie Holley, who slapped the ball into the net to grab his first goal for Hawks.
Hawks' winner came in the 64th minute when Lewes had three players sin-binned for professional fouls.
A typically determined run from the midfield from Craig Perks ended with the ball being fired into the D, and Baggs flicked it high into the net to get his second.
