MORE than £4.8m will be spent on improving Oxford's environment in the next three years.
The cash is part of £8m given to the city council by developers to reduce the impact building projects might have.
Executive member for planning Colin Cook said: "The council is working with developers to ensure that communities in Oxford benefit from new developments."
The council's executive board has approved 105 new programmes that will bring improvements to cycle tracks, footpaths, traffic and parking, CCTV, public transport and leisure facilities. More social housing could also be built in Oxford.
Schemes approved by the board include:
New cycle track in Blackbird Leys/Minchery Farm
Recreation scheme in Blackbird Leys to encourage a greater public presence in Gillians Park
Towpath improvements at Folly Bridge
New social housing developments in Donnington Bridge, Gwyneth Road, Masons Road and Thrift Place
CCTV expansion into Friars Entry, Victoria Court and Magdalen Street West.
The public will be given the opportunity to comment on proposals for new developments at the council's area committee meetings.
