Banbury's Prodrive European Touring Car Championship team equalled their best result of the season with a podium place at Donington Park.

Prodrive's James Hanson, left, goes round the outside

Top driver Rickard Rydell drove his Volvo S60 into second spot in the first of the day's two heats of the hotly-contested series.

Teammate James Hanson was just behind the leading bunch in ninth.

The Banbury outfit had expected a top-three finish at their home circuit, with the possibility of a win - and it was Swede Rydell who came closest to securing a victory, finishing just over a second behind the winner, German driver Dirk Muller in a BMW.

In third place was Gabrielle Tarquini, an old rival of Rydell's from the British Touring Car Championships, in an Alfa Romeo.

The second of the day's two races saw Rydell and Hanson retire with damaged cars after 'racing incidents.'

Rydell stopped on the first lap with suspension problems after a shunt at Redgate Corner.

Hanson held sixth place, until pulling out midway through the 13-lap event after being rammed at the Esses.
