Three Oxfordshire teachers will find out tomorrow whether they have won national awards.

Helen Reynolds, from Gosford Hill School, Kidlington, John Hawkins, headteacher of Edward Feild Primary School, also in Kidlington, and Joseph Rubba, from Windale Primary School, in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, are all in the running for the annual Teaching Awards National Awards.

The teachers, who all won their regional heats in the contest, are among 145 professionals nationwide who have been nominated for the awards, which are popularly known as Platos.

The awards will be presented in a ceremony at London's Theatre Royal, in Drury Lane. Each has already received a £2,000 grant for their school, plus £1,000 worth of computer equipment. The three stand to win prizes worth £25,000 for their schools.

The ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter Carol Smillie, and will be attended by celebrities including actor Art Malik, fertility expert and TV presenter Lord Winston and singer Mica Paris. It will be shown on BBC1 on Sunday, November 3.

Neil Fawcett, Oxfordshire County Council's executive member for learning said: "It's an excellent achievement and reflects the fact that in Oxfordshire, regardless of funding problems, we have some excellent staff doing some innovative and excellent teaching."
