Glynn Sutton, a well-known council officer, sportsman and craftsman, has died, aged 75.

He worked for Oxford City Council for more than 30 years, rising to housing maintenance manager.

He later worked in the housing benefits department at West Oxfordshire District Douncil in Witney.

Mr Sutton was born in Liverpool, completed an apprenticeship in the building industry and moved to Oxford in 1961. He played baseball, football and badminton, formed the Oxford and district badminton league and served on the Oxon, Berks and Bucks badminton comm- ittee.

He was also sports secretary of the Oxford-Leiden twin city link, and arranged many exchanges between Oxford and Dutch sports teams.

In his retirement, he developed a passion for wood-turning and exhibited at craft fairs throughout Oxfordshire, giving the proceeds to charity.

Mr Sutton, formerly of Laburnum Road, Botley, Oxford, and Bear Close Flats, Woodstock, died after a long illness at a nursing home at Prees, Shrop- shire.

The funeral took place at Prees, yesterday (October 28).

Mr Sutton leaves two daughters, Kathryn and Gillian, and a grandson, Robert.
