Oxford filmmaker and playwright Simon Howard has spent winter in India for the last 20 years.

In an exhibition of his colour photography at St Anne's College, he shows all sides of Indian life from the dismal poverty to the opulent richness set against the dramatic backdrop of the oriental landscape.
Some show a particularly brutal side of life in paradise. For example, the bull taming events held in the Tamil Nadu state when bulls are released into a crowd with invariably fatal results.
"The first time I went 15 men got killed."
This year 250 people were injured.
"The bull never gets hurt," said Simon.
The photographs, all for sale, are from all over India and Sri Lanka and show people, landscapes, architecture.
The exhibition called The Other Mahal: Photographs of India and Sri Lanka continues at the Mary Ogilvie Gallery at the college until November 9.
Visitors are advised to call the college in advance on 01865 274800.
