You report on a delay in the free collection of old fridges in Oxford (Oxford Mail, October 23), but there is no backlog in collecting other bulky items.

The delay is partly due to a seasonal peak - people tend to replace their fridges in the summer. With staff at City Works, I am doing all I can to speed up collection.

Under the Lib Dem/Green administration, people were paying nearly £20 to have bulky items removed, yet some had to wait more than five weeks.

Even more serious was the fly-tipping of fridges in housing areas across the city. This was a safety hazard, particularly for children.
