It is good to see that the new Labour administration on Oxford City Council has at last come round to our idea of turning poorly-used garage sites for housing (Oxford Mail, October 22).

Perhaps Labour councillors finally read the report that went to the old housing committee in October 2000 and to the council in November 2000, when the city was run by the Greens and Liberal Democrats.

It is also good to see how quickly the garages at Masons Road, Wood Farm, have been developed, given that this was one of the sites agreed for redevelopment at those meetings.

But let us make sure that credit goes to those that steered this policy through, not to the Labour councillors who, little more than six months ago, were still ridiculing me and my Green colleagues for daring to suggest that affordable housing should take priority over garage spaces.
