Help is at hand for elderly and infirm people worried about getting to Wantage's new health centre.
Last week, the Oxford Mail reported there was concern at how some patients would travel to the new centre in Mably Way. It will replace the town's two medical practices, in Newbury Street and Church Street, late next month.
But Wendy Watson, of the Voluntary Transport Scheme, said it would help transport elderly people to the centre. The project, which is based in the Independent Advice Centre at 16 Market Place, can pick people up from home, drive them to the health centre and wait for them before taking them home.
Mrs Watson said that the cost of a return door-to-door journey to the health centre from Wantage would be about £3.25.
The charity, which has a team of 25 drivers, is also appealing for more people to volunteer to help. For more information, visit the advice centre or call 01235 765348.
