A design student from Abingdon has won a national award after inventing a tough rucksack and an oral health care stick.
Gina Reimann, 22, from Eason Drive, Abingdon, has won two design awards from the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (RSA).
The final-year student at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, in Kent, beat more than 2,000 designers to win.
Judges were impressed by her design for a crime-proof rucksack and an oral hygiene stick to replace a ballpoint pen that many people are in the habit of chewing.
The rucksack, given the name 'Brat-Pack', includes slash-proof materials.
The oral hygiene stick contains a retractable twist mechanism which stores a minty chew containing fluoride.
Ms Reimann has won a £1,000 Edward Doherty and Sons Travel Award and an ACI Worldwide Travel Award from the RSA.
She said: "I didn't think I'd win. I have to use the money for travel to learn more about design, so I'm going to go to New York and Tokyo because there's so much good design out in those places."
The prizes were due to be awarded at a ceremony at the RSA buildings in London.
Ms Reimann now plans to exhibit her designs over the summer and hopes to convince a manufacturer to produce them.
