Radley's Kay Reynolds smashed the club record in the 100m and high jump as she helped her team to first place in the opening South of England Veterans' League at Tilsley Park.

Radley cruised home, amassing 179 points to see off Abingdon Amblers, who were second with 98 points.

There was also a club record in the 4x100m relay, with Gwynth Hueter, Reynolds, Lyn Ahmet and Veronica Boden setting 56.7sec.

Boden also displayed her stamina over the 1500m, winning in 5.08.5, just a day after running the 400 and 800 for Radley in the Southern League.

Witney Roadrunners' veterans made a solid start to their 2003 track and field campaign as no fewer than 12 club records were equalled or bettered.

New recruits Mandy Hook and Caroline Bayliss both eclipsed the old hammer record, Hook winning with a throw of 17.86m.

On the track, Kim Batts and Sally Pitts set club bests of 16.0secs in the 100m and 5.39.70 in the 1500m respectively.

The women eventually had to settle for fourth place.

In the men's match, Martin Townsend made a welcome return to his old club for track competition, setting a club record in the over 40 steeplechase in 12.36.3.

Cliff Jones dipped under the five-minute barrier in the over 40 men's 1500m, setting a new mark of 4.59.30.

Alan Millbank continued where he left off last year, equalling his own over 50 100m personal best, while improving his hammer pb to 17.99m, while in the long jump, Charlie Batts picked up maximum points with a leap of 5.51m.

These solid displays helped Witney to third place overall behind Oxford City and Abingdon Amblers.

Radley's Alex Ahmet set four new club records.
