A man wielding a golf club tried to attack a couple as they were walking home along an Oxford street.

The man chased the couple after they passed him in East Avenue, off Cowley Road, shortly after midnight on May 1.

They ran away, but the offender caught up with them in nearby Morrell Avenue and repeatedly tried to hit the man with a golf club.

He dodged the blows, but was left shaken.

The couple, who asked not to be named, were walking home from the Tesco supermarket, in Cowley Road.

The 23-year-old woman said: "We saw the man on the opposite side of the road and he was talking to himself.

"We walked by without saying anything. Then I looked over my shoulder and saw him waving a golf club in my face and he started to shout at us.

"We just ran, but he caught up with my boyfriend and tried to start whacking him.

"We were both shaken up and scared.

"We want to let people know about this so they can be on their guard."

The offender was Asian, about 30, 5ft 10ins tall, of a medium build, and with black, thinning hair.

In a seperate incident, a man was robbed by three Asian men after he accidentally bumped into one of them.

The incident happened at 11.45pm on May 1, at the junction of Marston Ferry Road and Ferry Pool Road in north Oxford.

The victim's wallet was taken including cash and a bank card.

A dark blue saloon was seen driving away from the scene.

All three offenders were all in their early 20s.

The first was about 5ft 11in tall, of medium build with short dark hair.

He was wearing a pale blue jacket and possibly white trainers.

The second was about 5ft 9in tall, and of broad build. He had a dark brown beard, and wore a blue hooded top.

The last offender was about 5ft 11in tall.
