Vandals caused thousands of pounds of damage after hurling concrete slabs at vehicles in a factory car park.

One car was written off in the attack and windows were smashed in a delivery lorry.

The damage was the latest in a series of incidents to hit the Foam Company, based off lower Broadway, near the new Hitchcock Way road in Didcot.

Company bosses have criticised the police for failing to respond to the incidents.

They have also criticised the county council for leaving blocks of stone lying around.

The incident, over the Bank Holiday weekend, saw a company-owned Rover 214 written off. Vandals also smashed windows in one of the company's seven-and-a-half tonne Man lorries, causing £500 damage and at least a day's delay delivering products.

Chris Nash, managing director of the factory, said his sales director Jon Baker went to Didcot Police Station to try to report the damage on May 5, only to find the station closed.

Thames Valley Police were unavailable for comment.

Mr Nash blamed police and the county council for their poor response to the plight of firms alongside the new road, where contractors only recently returned to complete the scheme.

Mr Nash blamed Oxfordshire County Council contractors working on the new road for leaving stones and bricks on embankments bordering the road.

But Mike Collins, of the council, rejected the criticism.

He said the new £5.3m road had been built for the benefit of Didcot, and the council should not be blamed for the behaviour of vandals.
