The Biblical tale of the feeding of the 5,000 is being mirrored in Oxford city centre.
Thirteen churches are getting together from May 7 until May 10 to give out free burgers to passers-by.
Music and drama will be performed on the streets at the barbecue in Bonn Square.
The churches, which represent several Christian denominations, believe the barbecue is a 21st century approach to what Jesus did when he provided enough food for a crowd of 5,000 people with five loaves and two fishes.
Event co-ordinator Claire Middlehurst said organisers were expecting to hand out about 7,500 burgers over the four days.
She said: "Last year, there was a really special atmosphere at the barbecue.
"This is a great opportunity to share God's love with the people of Oxford, bringing the church out from behind the walls to meet and serve people where they are."
Church members and clergy will be on hand to talk to and pray with people and to answer questions about Christianity during the barbecues, which will take place from noon to 2pm.
