A club which has had its home at a Bicester sports centre for almost 30 years is moving on.

Club members and medal winners

Bicester Gymnastics Club has started looking for new premises because Bicester and Ploughley Sports Centre, in Queens Avenue, cannot give it sole use of the main hall.

The club uses the hall three times a week, but members have to set up and put away equipment every time to make way for other clubs.

Cherwell District Council, which owns the building, also took over the hall during local government elections and a town poll to count votes.

Chief coach Glenn Gamotis said members had been training at the centre for 27 years.

But he added: "It's felt budding young gymnasts from Bicester could be reaching greater heights than they already are with a dedicated building that ideally would be fully equipped.

"Bicester is one of the fastest growing towns, but recreational and sports facilities are not being built to cope with the growing number of aspiring sportsmen and women."

Mr Gamotis has teamed up with Alan Armitage, the director of coaching at the Arabian School of Gymnasts, in Milton Keynes, to look for a dedicated training facility. Meanwhile, the Bicester team has been celebrating winning 40 medals at a competition in Milton Keynes.

The group, which included 26 girls and one boy, took part in the Rose's Invitational Competition at the Arabian School.
