Hardwood specialist Timbmet has announced a major expansion after snapping up a rival firm.
The company, based at Cumnor Hill, Oxford, has bought the current stock and customer list of hardwood, clear softwoods and panels business Vincent Murphy in Liverpool for an undisclosed sum.
It has also acquired Vincent Murphy's subsidiary company, Severn Plywood, based in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.
Timbmet group chief executive Simon Fineman said: "The timber trade is consolidating and this agreement shows the Timbmet Group's commitment to maintaining our leading position."
The move will mean Vincent Murphy's Liverpool operation will close, but Severn Plywood will continue to trade under its own name.
Neil Dixon, managing director of Vincent Murphy and Severn Plywood, said: "We believe we need additional resources to improve the quality and range of services we offer and it was clear Timbmet already had many of these resources in place."
