Dexter Blackstock added a few more thousand pounds to his rapidly-increasing value with two goals as Oxford United Reserves beat their Plymouth Argyle counterparts 3-0 in Wednesday's Pontin's Holidays Combination match.

Watched by a number of Premiership scouts, including representatives from Southampton, Newcastle and Arsenal, Blackstock showed just how deadly he is in front of goal with two opportunist strikes to set the U's up for victory.

Another massive plus for United was Jamie Brooks's first start since recovering from the life-threatening Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and he showed some nice touches.

But it was Blackstock who was the name on everybody's lips as they left Court Place Farm, with the 17-year-old now having the outstanding record of seven goals in his last two games.

It is surely only a matter of time before he is either snapped up by a big club, or offered a long-term contract by United.

He opened the scoring in the 15th minute when a long punt from U's keeper Simon Cox was not dealt with by the Plymouth defence, and Blackstock stuck his foot in where it hurts to sidefoot home.

It took until seven minutes after half-time for the hot-shot striker to bag his second. A deep cross from Josias Carbon was nudged away by Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick, and Blackstock was in the right place again to shoot home left-footed.

Brooks left the pitch to a big ovation from the crowd in the 64th minute, having shown glimpses of just what U's supporters have missed.

Despite looking nervous for the first 15 minutes, his confidence grew and he showed a few deft pieces of skill that were too good for the Plymouth defence. It was simply delighful to see him back.

Blackstock, meanwhile, looked odds-on to complete a hat-trick when he was played through by Tom Winters, only to see his effort blocked by the outstretched leg of defender Paul Connolly.

But Manny Omoyinmi succeeded where Blackstock had failed 12 minutes from time, latching onto an inch-perfect Winters pass to sidestep McCormick and slot home.

Another plus for United saw David Waterman come through his first 90 minutes of the season following a knee ligament problem, while trailist Steve Cant played 79 minutes at left wing-back.

Oxford Utd Res: Cox, Cant (Brandish 79), Ciampoli, Waterman, Lovegrove, Garner, Hackett (Carbon h/t), Oldfield, Blackstock, Omoyinmi, Brooks (Winters 64). Subs not used: MacKay, Beechers.
