More than 5,000 people are expected to flock into Wallingford this weekend for the town's second Bunkfest.

A feast of folk music, dancing, open air concerts, steam trains and beer festivals has been organised for the festival.

It takes its name from the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway, called the Bunk, and the railway plays a major part in the weekend's events.

More than 20 dance teams and several top folk musicians are booked to play at a variety of venues. They include the town centre, on the Kinecroft park, the sports trust ground on Hithercroft and several pubs. The event runs from August 29 to August 31.

Mayor Betty Atkins officially opens the event at 1pm in the Market Place. She said: "It was an absolutely excellent event last year and this year it has grown. I am sure it will be very successful."

Other events taking place as part of the Bunkfest include a craft fair, a youth arts programme in conjunction with Wallingford Youth Centre, children's events, stalls by groups including Sustainable Wallingford, and walks round the historic town.

The festival will be fundraising for local groups, including the Wallingford Club for adults with learning difficulties, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, Wallingford Sports Park youth section and the railway itself.
