Abingdon Tn 3, Chichester City Utd 1: Abingdon made it through an FA Cup round for the first time in four years when they saw off their Sussex County League opponents in a tough game in front of a good crowd at Culham Road.
With assistant manager Gordon Geary playing a 4-4-2 formation with Luke Beauchamp up front, Town went behind after 21 minutes.
Chris Johnson gave the ball away and from a left wing cross Chichesterstriker Roger Moore looked almost embarrassed with the amount of time and spacve he had to score.
Ten minutes later, Abingdon had a goal ruled out for offside, but they equalised when Chichester defender Paul Jones made a rash challenge on Chris Potter, who got up to slot home the resultant penalty.
As the second half progressed, Abingdon gradually took control, prompted mainly by Potter and the non-stop running of Chris Harper up front.
However, they were indebted to keeper Gordon Hearmon on 68 minutes who pulled off a fine save to deny Laidlaw.
Then on 79 minutes, Abingdon took the lead with a goal made by Harper's persistence down the right. He crossed for Beauchamp to toe-poke the ball on for Potter who rammed home from eight yards.
Four minutes from time, Abingdon wrapped it up when a 25-yard shot from Tom Butler cannoned back off the bar. Harper was first to react, knocking home the rebound.
