An "opportunist" thief stole a peg bag from a conservatory but left it in the garden, Oxford Crown Court heard.
David Paintin, 22, of Coriander Way, Greater Leys, Oxford, said he could not remember the incident, which took place on April 27.
On Monday, September 1, he was sentenced to a two-year rehabilitation order and 80 hours of community service.
Sophie Eloquin, prosecuting, said Paintin broke the window of an 80-year-old woman's conservatory and stole the peg bag. Blood on a window frame matched his.
Andrew Pote, defending, said he did not go beyond the conservatory.
Judge Bruce McIntyre said: "If you commit another burglary the court will not be able to give you another chance."
