Dexter Blackstock described his transfer to Southampton as "a dream move".

And Oxford United say there are plenty more exciting prospects who have come through the ranks the same way as he has.

Youth development officer Les Taylor said: "Being selfish, I'm a bit disappointed he's gone, but with some players when an offer comes in that's too good to turn down, you have to accept it. Dexter has progressed through the ranks at Oxford since he was nine and come all the way through the youth teams.

"He's a fearless player and he has been pushed up the age groups because he's been able to cope with that.

"It's a great move for him, and it's good for Oxford too. Like Jamie Brooks, who's from Cowley, he's an Oxford lad who has been an Oxford United fan all his life.

"His parents too are United fans through and through so they're a bit sad - while being excited for him at the same time."

Blackstock told United's official website: "It's just too good an opportunity to turn down really."
