There is no doubting who was Oxfordshire's star performer in an otherwise disappointing Minor Counties Championship campaign.

Rob Williams made 470 runs at a staggering average of 156.67 in a campaign that saw Oxon finish winless and bottom of the Western Division.

Williams also made 96 in the rain-affected Minor Counties Trophy clash with Dorset, which Oxofordshire lost on a bowl-out.

The Leamington Spa batsman's only blip in a superb season was his second-ball dismissal by former West Indies paceman Franklyn Rose in Sunday's C&G loss to Herefordshire at Banbury.

Charlie Knightley also enjoyed a fine season with the bat, making 334 runs at 47.71, including two cen- turies.

Robbie Eason was another to impress with 333 runs at 33.3. The highlight of Eason's season was his gritty knock of 90 in the Western Division draw away to Herefordshire.

On the bowling front, Keith Arnold took 16 wickets at 21.25 to become the second leading wicket-taker in Oxfordshire history during the summer.

The 43-year-old seamer passed the great Joe Banton's total of 571 Championship victims.

Arnold has now claimed 584 scalps in the Western Division at an average of 22.37.

His next target - one he believes to be out of reach - is the late David Laitt's mark of 670 wickets, taken between 1952 and 1972 at 14.95.

The next best bowler was Banbury fast bowler Simon Launder with 14 victims at 30.57.
