One of Oxfordshire's more unusual museums which recaptures the English countryside of the 1930s through miniature models, is celebrating its 50th anniversary next year.

Model cottages, farms, fields and lanes are on show at Pendon Museum, Long Wittenham, near Didcot. They act as a setting for model railways and attract enthusiasts from across the globe.

Next year new landscape models will be on show and a series of special anniversary events will be advertised on the museum's website -- www.pendonmuseum.com

Pendon spokesman Rob Thompson said: "From January to August there will be a new exhibition -- Hectic Decade, portraying the changes in England between two world wars in pictures and words."

He added: "From September to December there will be a look at how we travelled in the motorless times of the 1920s and 1930s called 'What you did before you had a car'."

The museum is closed until Saturday and Sunday, December 27 and 28, when it will be open from 2pm to 5pm. It will also be open on New Year's Day at the same time.
