Three years to the day after the death of Ross Doyle, an appeal to anyone who knows the identity of his killers was made at half-time on Saturday at the Oxford United home match against Carlisle.

Football enthusiast Ross was knocked down and killed by a stolen red Vauxhall Astra in Blackbird Leys, Oxford. No-one has been prosecuted over his death.

Ross, nine, was a pupil at St John Fisher RC First School and one of the stars of the Blackbird Leys under-nine team.

He was killed in Pegasus Road at 8.45pm on December 13, 2000.

He was returning from football practice at the Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, which is less than a mile from United's Kassam Stadium.

The stadium manager Tony Ashley said: "It was difficult to judge the reaction of the crowd, but people stood and listened."
