The 39-year-old actor, who played Gollum in the film trilogy, was at Waterstone's in Cornmarket Street yesterday (March 24) to sign copies of Gollum: How We Made Movie Magic.
The Oscar-winning films are based on the books by former Oxford University academic JRR Tolkien, who wrote his famous books The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings at homes in north Oxford and Headington.
Mr Serkis picked Oxford as one of the locations for a book signing because of the Tolkien connection.
The actor, who auditioned for the part of Gollum on the understanding it would be a three-week voiceover, spent years helping to create the computer-generated character.
