A man who died in a motorcycle crash was being followed by police who had earlier seized his ignition keys because he had been drinking.

The 19-year-old was killed when his Suzuki motorbike swerved off the road at a bend at Kingston Blount, near Chinnor, at about 1.30am on Saturday.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, had been drinking in Thame earlier that night.

Officers confiscated his keys to prevent him from riding home, but when they were later parked in a patrol car they saw a motorcyclist riding along the Chinnor Road.

Thames Valley Police spokesman James Simpson said the officers initially followed with blue lights and sirens, but quickly realised he was the same motorcyclist they had dealt with earlier.

He said: "The pursuit was aborted and the motorcyclist was followed safely at a distance."

They lost sight of the motorcyclist until they arrived at the crash scene in Stert Road.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Officers tried to resuscitate the man while they waited for paramedics to arrive, but a doctor pronounced him dead at the scene.
