Oxford C 1, Chesham Utd 2: Oxford City were out of luck against Chesham as they were denied by the woodwork no fewer than four times during Saturday's Ryman Division 1 North encounter.

Early on, City had to defend in depth as Gary Sippets and John Richardson went close to opening Chesham's account.

City's Chris Harper nearly broke the deadlock when he went past the keeper, but his shot from a narrow angle was cleared by Paul Aldridge.

On 19 minutes, Chesham took the lead after Andy Adebowale's effort found the net despite the efforts of Steve Benbow.

Neil Crosby worked his way through the visitors' defence, but his final effort came back off a post.

Chesham went further ahead after 50 minutes when Brian Fitzgerald's pinpoint cross was met by the head of Sippets.

City went all out to get back into the game, Steve Hale hitting an upright before they reduced the arrears on 69 minutes.

Keeper David Clark cleared from a crowd of players and although the ball went some distance, Robin Antonowicz's powerful header carried over everyone into an empty net.

Benbow was a spectator for much of the latter stages and the home side must have realised it wasn't their day when Crosby hit a post again twice in quick succession.

The home side were reduced to ten men in the closing stages when Andy Ballard was sent off for a second yellow card.

Oxford C: Benbow, Dark, Crosby, Antonowicz, Brown, Lee, Champelovier, Shepherd, Hale (Prescott 85), Harper, Ballard. Subs not used: Simpson, Cruse, Smillie, Whitehead.
