Student Duncan Rands will be remembering his father when he puts on his running shoes for this year's London marathon.

The 24-year-old is fundraising for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after his father Neil died from the illness on New Year's Eve six years ago.

Mr Rands, who is studying real estate management at Oxford Brookes University, said: "I really wanted to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and raise their profile because many people are unaware of the illness and what causes it."

Mr Rands, of Minster Road, Oxford, is hoping to raise about £1,750 by running the 26-mile circuit on April 18.

Oliver James estate agents, based in Cowley Road, for whom James works part-time, has already got the ball rolling with a substantial donation.

Oliver Hope, of Oliver James, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring Duncan for such a worthwhile cause. We wish him great success on April 18."
