Treasures that are not permanently on view in Oxfordshire museums will be among the attractions at six open days at the county council's Museum's Resource Centre, in Standlake.

The centre will be open from 2pm-4pm with guided tours from 2pm-3pm on the first Thursday of each month from April to October, apart from August. The first is on April 15.

The tours will take visitors behind the scenes at the centre to see the museums' reserve collections including archaeology, fine art, crafts, textiles, social history, agricultural and industrial material.

The county council's executive member for learning and culture Neil Fawcett said: "The Museums' Resource Centre is a treasure house of Oxfordshire's rich heritage.

"Although much of the collection is on display in museums throughout the county, it is fascinating to see the collection in store and the dedicated work that goes on to look after it."

The tours last for 50 minutes. Visitors are advised to book in advance by calling 01865 300972.
