Abingdon Amblers were celebrating this week after the club received more than £6,500 in grants.

The cash, which came from from the Vale of White Horse National Lottery Awards for All scheme and UK Athletics, will allow the club to develop their programme of activities for young people wanting improve their sporting skills and keep fit

The coach responsible for applying for the grants, Steve Pomeroy, said: "We are thrilled to get these awards.

"For a club like ours this is a large sum of money which will allow Abingdon Amblers to offer athletics training to many more young people, of all abilities.

"We have worked very hard on developing the club, but now we have the money, it's time for the real hard work to start.

"We want to encourage more young and disabled people from the community to take up athletics, and the grants mean Abingdon Amblers can improve their coaching and training abilities."

The club have bought soft athletics equipment, which will enable the club to coach many of the track and field events to their youngsters.

It will also allow younger members to master events in a safe and fun environment.

Abingdon Amblers hold training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.45pm at Tilsley Park.

The club also offers training for adults of all abilities.
