Abingdon Town 7, Clapton 1: Joey Beauchamp scored a hat-trick as Abingdon romped to a magnificent victory over Ryman League Division 2 strugglers Clapton at Culham Road last night.

The former Oxford United star struck twice as Town took a 4-0 interval lead and completed his treble in the second half.

The game kicked off 40 minutes late after the visitors were delayed in traffic, and there were some new (and old) faces in the Abingdon side.

Ryan Curtin, on loan from Kidlington, played at wing-back and there was a return for Matty Whitehead, who has rejoined from Oxford City for the rest of the season.

Tom Butler opened the scoring after seven minutes when he neatly flicked home Tim Barton's cross for his first league goal at Culham Road.

Five minutes later, Chris Johnson fired home a penalty, awarded for handball.

The goal of the night came after 25 minutes when Beauchamp sent in a blistering shot that swerved and gave keeper Butler no chance. He then made it 4-0, after Butler had saved from Barton.

In the second half, Butler got the fifth and his own second, before Beauchamp completed his hat-trick, rifling home Whitehead's pass.

Curtin marked his debut with a goal after 76 minutes, before Clapton deservedly scored a consolation goal after 83 minutes through Michael Filletti.

Abingdon: Brain, Scanes, Curtin, Clare, Davis, Johnson, Whitehead, Charles, Barton, Butler, J Beauchamp.

Stuart Beavon ended his eight-game goal drought by heading home in the 70th minute to give AFC Wallingford a 1-0 victory at Raynes Park Vale in the Seagrave Haulage League Premier Division last night.
