the mud Paul Jegou was in good form for White Horse Harriers as he finished an impressive fourth at the ninth Compton Downland 20-mile Challenge on Saturday.

In muddy conditions, the race was tougher than normal, but Jegou excelled to cross the line in 2hrs 12mins 20secs.

His teammate Jason Cooke produced a fine run as he too finished in the top ten, clocking 2.17.14 for eighth place.

Abingdon Ambler Gary Richards led home his clubmates in 18th place in 2.28.56, while Super Veteran Ernie North ran double the distance to complete the 40-mile challenge in 8.04.36.

North's display was good enough to earn him first place in the Vet 60 race.

Headington Roadrunner Hanno Nickau finished tenth overall in a personal best of 5.45.34.
