Daffodils are to be removed from part of the hstoric Rollright Stones and auctioned.
The Rollright Trust, which owns the site near Chipping Norton, has decided that the non-native garden plants, pictured, are not appropriate for the setting of an ancient monument but do not want to waste good bulbs. The trust will replant the area around King's Men stone circle with native species this autumn.
Curator Don Prout said: "We aim to create a diverse and species-rich limestone meadow, using indigenous bulbs and wildflower plugs."
The auction, on the Internet site eBay, starts at 9am next Thursday, April 8, and ends on Easter Sunday.
