SIR - The principle of an inquiry into the fiasco of Cornmarket Street, Oxford (Oxford Mail, March 25), is good, but we all know it will be another whitewash.

The people pretending to run our councils for the good of the people are a disgrace.

Once they get the vote, they think that they are not accountable to the electorate and can do anything they like - and they do.

They think 'Councillor' after their name gives them the right to dictate where people go, what they do and what their money is spent or wasted on.
