SIR - You report that the Royal Mail is making major changes to its service (Oxford Mail, March 29).

Here in Barton, Oxford, we are lucky if we get post once a day, let alone twice.

As for people not getting a delivery until lunchtime, that is early for us. It is usually after 2pm.

In fact, recently our street got a delivery after 6pm.

It is also not uncommon to receive nothing for two or three days, then get a large bundle through your door.

I ordered something online more than two weeks ago, and it was despatched the same day by first-class post.

As I hadn't received it after two weeks, I called the company and it agreed to send me another item by recorded delivery.

At the time of writing, there is still no sign of either the first parcel or the recorded delivery one.

Complaints to Headington sorting office or the Royal Mail office in Cowley are unhelpful. The manager at Headington told me that they were short staffed and were relying on casual workers.

But can we rely on them to do the job?

I rely on e-mail for most things, but unfortunately some items have to be sent by post and so far, there doesn't seem to be an alternative to the Royal Mail.
