Commercial director Nigel Eggleton asks that passengers get in touch with the Oxford Bus Company with queries or complaints (Oxford Mail, April 1).

There are some bus drivers who, by association, tarnish the reputation of the rest.

The problem is, of course, proving that a driver has misbehaved or treated a passenger insensitively.

They have to be caught in the act, and although the use of mystery passengers is one way, web-cams are the other. I imagine secret filming might be regarded as a step too far.

Depending on how recognisable Mr Eggleton is to his drivers, rather than wait for passengers to call him, he should travel incognito. He would see for himself rather than wait for someone to let him know.

It is better to identify the recurring problems before a customer has to tell him. Some people are reluctant to complain, and prefer to bottle things up.

If Mr Eggleton is worried about being recognised, he could consider growing a moustache (assuming he doesn't have one) and shaving his head (assuming he isn't bald).

That way, not even his mother would recognise him.
