Clubbers are gearing up to help raise thousands of pounds for the Oxford Children's Hospital Campaign, as a city nightspot launches a string of bank holiday fundraising events.

One of Britain's favourite DJs, Judge Jules, will give the campaign a helping hand when he takes to the decks at the Park End nightclub on Sunday, April 11.

As reported by the Oxford Mail in February, the club raised £10,000 last year by holding dance nights every bank holiday Sunday.

Managers hope to raise even more money this year by organising bigger and better events, known as Republica.

Park End manager Zoltan Branch said Judge Jules agreed to perform at the club, in Park End Street, after hearing about its support for the Children's Hospital.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ will hand over a cheque for £10,000 to campaign organisers at the club in front of up to 1,200 revellers.

Oxford magistrates have granted it permission to stay open until 4am, two hours later than usual.

Staff will wear Children's Hospital T-shirts all weekend and collect donations from customers.

Mr Branch, a father-of-two, said it was too soon to reveal which DJs would take part in future Republica events.

He said: "We've worked really hard to secure appearances from some of the biggest names and hope this will attract more people and raise even more money for the Children's Hospital.

"I've spent time at the John Radcliffe Hospital and know the need for a new hospital. If we and our customers can help, that's great."

Tickets to Sunday's event cost £8 and are available by calling the club on 01865 250181 or from Thirst Bar, in Park End Street. A percentage of profits from ticket and drink sales will go to the appeal, which has already raised £15.9m towards the hospital, which will be built at the JR site in Headington.
