Hat-trick hero Danny Morgan is hoping that his scintillating Oxford United Reserves debut will end with a permanent deal.

The 19-year-old was released from Wimbledon earlier this month, and donned an Oxford shirt for the first time in the reserves' 5-3 win over Bristol Rovers on Monday.

And manager Graham Rix cannot have failed to be impressed with Morgan, who hit a treble, but could have had five.

The youngster was delighted with his performance, and is now just waiting to hear from the United boss on what happens next.

"I was obviously very happy with the way things went," he said.

"I haven't trained with Oxford yet, and the reserve game was the first time I'd been involved with them.

"I am just waiting to hear what happens now, but I think that I might be going to train next Tuesday - I'm not sure yet though."

It took Morgan just two minutes to open his account for the U's, and he would have scored a first-half double had he not been cruelly fouled by Rovers keeper Pete Trago when about to slot home into an empty net.

But Morgan scored twice more after the break, and hit the post with another effort to round-off a superb solo show.

"The manager said 'well done' to me afterwards, but I haven't heard anything else," he added.

"When you go on trial you are obviously hopeful that things go well and you are offered something, but it looks like I will go to a few more clubs to try my luck there while I have not got a permanent offer."

Morgan did not make a first-team appearance with Wimbledon, but made several starts for the reserve side.

He began his football career with West Ham at the age of ten, and has gradually worked his way from defence to attack over the years.

"I travelled with the Wimbledon first team a few times, but was 17th or 18th man on a few occasions, so didn't get onto the bench," he said.
