Cricket: Hole and Dunnill the heroes for Freeland

In Division 1, just one game reached a conclusion, where Freeland continued their good form with a two-wicket victory over Charlbury.

Les Hole claimed 5-19 as Charlbury were restricted to 115-8 in a game reduced to 35 overs a side.

Freeland struggled to reach the target, with Phil Dunnill (54no) saving the day.

Pete Bartlett took 4-8 for Charlbury.

Freeland, however, went down by 12 runs to Chinnor yesterday.

Chinnor were dismissed for 183, John Chittendon hitting 67. In reply, Freeland crashed to 171 all out, despite 60 from young star Stuart Hole.

In Division 2, Brill won the top-of-the-table clash with Twyford by 44 runs.

Brill slumped to 125 all out, Hugh Simmons hitting 53, but Twyford fared worse as they were bowled out for 81.

Paul Smith (5-16) and Darren Kavanagh (5-36) did the damage.

Division 3 leaders Watlington suffered their first defeat in a rain-affected clash at Marcham.

Steve Strong (52) helped Watlington to 111-9, Andy Chalmers (5-25) and Neil Cottrell (4-19) shining with the ball.

Watlington had recovered from 37-5 to post a reasonable total.

Marcham were in dire straits at 18-4 in reply, but a match-winning fifth-wicket stand of 76 between Andy Horseman and Kenny Pope set up a well-deserved three-wicket win.

Phil Hargraves hit 43 as Oxford Rescue beat Broughton & North Newington by six wickets.

Rob Garrett was once again Stonesfield's match-winner as he helped his team to a 70-run victory over Swinbrook.

Garrett made 39 as Stonesfield posted 171-7, and then he took 5-15 as Swinbrook crashed to 101 all out.

In Division 6, Eynsham 2nd beat Charlbury 2nd by 33 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Eynsham rattled up a formidable 250-6, with Graham Wells hitting 84 and youngster Sam Jones 56 not out.

Charlbury put up a good chase, but despite Tom Woolley's 80, they eventually slipped to 217 all out, Richard Lake claiming 4-44.

Tony Tomblin (37no) and Stuart Symes (37) took Britwell Salome to a three-wicket victory over Wantage, while Wayne Morton (44no) helped Wootton & Boars Hill to a comfortable six-wicket triumph against Freeland 2nd.

Ron Ridgeway took 6-27 for Westbury 2nd, but still finished on the losing side as Stanton Harcourt won by three wickets.

Batting first, Westbury reached 123 all out, with Steven Drury making 55 not out, but Stanton got over the line, despite Ridgeway's haul.

In Division 7, Gary Wills smashed 115 not out as Horley 2nd thrashed Sunningwell by 101 runs.

Horley rattled up 226-3, before restricting their visitors to 125-9.

Shrivenham 2nd crushed Marsh Gibbon 2nd by ten wickets.

There was controversy at Brill 2nd in Division 8, where the umpires abandoned the game with Brill needing just eight for victory against Kings Sutton 2nd.

Kings Sutton were bowled out for 161, Alan Guntrip taking 5-56.

Brill were on course for victory at 153-7 with eight overs left, but the umpires called a halt after a shower.

In Division 9, East & West Hendred 2nd beat Yarnton by 29 runs.

Batting first, Hendred posted 132-7, with Marcus Castle hitting 47.

Yarnton never got going in their reply, slipping to 103 all out as Ally Pollock took 4-28, Peter Baring 3-26 and Simon Berry 3-6. OCA RESULTS CHECK Division 1
