Proportional representation is not conducive in providing long-term, stable government.
The current system is not broke and therefore does not require fixing.
The Conservative Party would be horrified by Michael Hugh-Jones's suggestion of the Single Transferable Vote (Oxford Mail, June 30).
It might give them more representation in Oxford, but will this be the same throughout the country? I think not. MICK McANDREWS, (Councillor) Oxfordshire County Council
