Abingdon middleweight Jake Guntert's third professional fight is not likely to be until September.

The 21-year-old knocked out Mark Wall in just 96 seconds in his last outing at the York Hall, Bethnal Green on June 25.

But the traditional summer boxing break means he will not get into the ring again until the second or third week in September.

Guntert is being managed by Frank Maloney, the man who steered Lennox Lewis to the undisputed world heavyweight crown.

Maloney said after the knockout of Wall: "Jake is one of my long-term projects, and most of my long-term projects end up as champions."

And Maloney appears to be putting his money where his mouth is by putting Guntert together with one of boxing's top conditioning coaches - Joe Dunbar.

"Joe was Lennox Lewis's strength and fitness coach, so it is quite a big deal," said Guntert.

"Frank and Eugene Maloney are paying for me to see him for a year to work on my strength and general fitness.

"I am not sure that they think I need to work on any one area, but just working with a guy with that expertise is going to benefit me."

One big name that Guntert has not been allowed to work with, however, is Sid Owen.

The former Eastenders' actor trained with the Maloney Fight Factory for his Sport Relief charity fight with Ben Fogle on Saturday night, which Owen lost after the viewers' vote declared Fogle the winner.

"Sid has been at the gym a lot, but they won't let me spar with him," said Guntert.

"A week before my last fight, they were going to let me, but my trainer convinced them not to because he thought I might have hurt Sid."
