Three hooded youths who hotwired a dumper truck and rammed the gates of the Bullcroft Park in Wallingford have been condemned as mindless, drunken yobs.
Mayor Theresa Jordan is appealing to anyone who knows the culprits to report them to the police.
The brick piers and the Victorian gates were smashed down -- leaving the town council with a repair bill running into thousands of pounds.
Wallingford police are investigating the incident which happened last Friday.
Security barriers have been put up and the gates will be restored in the near future.
Ms Jordan said: "This is another example of vandalism fuelled by alcohol and done by mindless, drunken yobs.
"Someone must have seen this happen and know who the culprits are. I am appealing to their better natures to come forward." At Wallingford police station, Sgt Irfon Rees said: "We are investigating what happened and we are appealing to anyone who can help us to come forward."
