Abingdon Town boss Paul Berry believes he has pulled off a "real coup" after former Oxford United winger Joey Beauchamp agreed to re-sign for the Ryman League Division 2 club.

There had been speculation that Beauchamp, who netted 17 goals for Town in the last campaign would move on.

But despite offers from Southern League Premier Division side Banbury United and Southern League Division 1 West side Brackley Town to name but a few, he has decided to stay at Culham Road.

Berry said: "I'm absolutely delighted he has re-signed. It's a real coup for a club like Abingdon to get someone of his ability down here.

"He did very well for us last season.

"We have kept fairly quiet about it, because there were so many clubs after him, and they were offering big money."

Berry has boosted his squad with three new names after signing midfielder Leighton Creer from Oxford City, plus the Thame United duo of George Gibbons and Daniel Welsh.

And he said there could be more signings on the way, thanks to Beauchamp's decision.

Meanwhile, Matty Whitehead and Stuart Douglas are having trials with Southern League Division 1 West side Oxford City. Last week defender Dave Tregurtha moved to Court Place Farm.
