Geography teacher Robert Lilwall is preparing for a 20,000 mile around the world cycle journey crossing 20 countries to raise money for children at risk.

Mr Lilwall, 27, who teaches at Larkmead School in Abingdon, will set off from his home in Lytton Road, Oxford, on what he describes as a "challenge of a lifetime."

He is flying to Magadan in north east Siberia at the end of next month with a friend and fellow keen cyclist Al Humphries, 27, from Yorkshire.

Three years ago they cycled from England to Ethiopia, and have also travelled in Peru, Pakistan, China, South Africa and South America, up through the USA and on to Canada.

The pair will cycle from Magadan to Vladivostock, a distance of about 3,000 miles, then around the Far East, returning to the UK via Iran, Georgia and Russia. A map of their route is pictured.

Mr Lilwall aims to raise £10,000 for Viva Network, the Oxford charity that supports children at risk around the world.

He said: "I'm 27, free, single, healthy and mortgage-free, and I feel like a bit of an adventure."
