A parcel was left on my doorstep. It was supposed to be delivered, recorded and signed for. The sticker with the tracking number was torn off.

I asked the sender to send the item recorded delivery, for which I paid, to stop it from being left on the doorstep and possibly stolen.

The sender e-mailed me a scan of his receipt to confirm.

A postman told me a few months ago that they are not required to return to the depot once all their mail has been delivered. They go straight home after finishing.

Certainly, they wouldn't go all the way back to the depot just for one recorded delivery parcel if they can tear off the sticker and pretend it is a regular parcel.

I speculate that part of the problem is that the morale of postal staff is not good. If they felt better about their job, they might take it more seriously and try harder. I feel this is the fault of management and the history between them and the people on the ground. WENDY PAGE, Oxford
