Banbury Town A can win the Men's Division 2 title in the Wilson OLTA Inter-Club 3-Pair League if they get at least a draw with closest rivals Woodstock in their final game.
Woodstock need to win the game, as a draw would see Banbury take the title on a superior rubbers count.
Banbury, who have a 100 per cent record, thrashed strugglers Abingdon B 8-.
Banbury's first pair of Alan Gundle and Colin Lynes dropped only five points, including a 6-0, 6-1 demolition of Abingdon's first pair of Robert Lidd and Simon Jennings.
In Division 1, Cholsey look to have escaped the drop after an incredible 5-4 win at leaders North Oxford, who boasted three county players.
Going into the final rubber, the sides were level at 4-4, before Cholsey's Simon Greenland and Patrick Warburton beat Nick Beale and Christian Petersen 6-3, 7-5 to take the tie.
Earlier, Cholsey's first pair Tom Greenland and James Lake accounted for Oxford's first pair Jonathan Maskens and Michael Darmon 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
