Radley's men missed out on promotion in heartbreaking fashion - after winning the final match of their Southern League Division 3 season at Salisbury.

They edged out arch rivals Oxford City by two points to win the match, but later learned that they had lost out on the countback system of points won at each meeting during the season.

Their victory gave them 23 match points over the season - the same as three other clubs.

But Radley missed out on promotion by 15 meeting points as they finished fourth in the table - the top two going up.

In a tight match in Salisbury, Radley produced a string of fine performances.

Pete Davies clocked a personal best in the 100m, crossing the line in 11.8secs, while James van de Schootbrugge did likewise in the 400m, recording a time of 54.7.

He also set an under 20 club record in the 400m hurdles, clocking 1.06.8.

In his first ever attempt at the 110m hurdles, Tom Lewis set an under 17 club record of 21.8.

Ben Owen lost his unbeaten record in the 100m, finishing second, but he equalled the club record in the pole vault, clearing 2.80m.

Team captain Steve Wren got a personal best of 1.03.5 in the 400m hurdles, while Paul Jegou showed his class in the 1500m with a personal best and club record of 4.12.3.

He also finished second in the 5000m in 16.52.8.

It was left to Matt Pearce to secure victory for Radley ahead of Oxford City, clocking a personal best of 13.51.4 in the B string 3000m steeplechase to ensure enough points to edge out their rivals for first place.

Result: 1 Radley 134pts, 2 Oxford City 132, 3 Wessex & Bath 128, 4 Milton Keynes 104.

Final league standings (top four): 1 Newbury 23pts (717 meeting pts), 2 Newton Abbott 23 (712), 3 Newquay 23 (706), 4 Radley 23 (697).
